Sick And Tired Of People Complaining About People Complaining About New People Going To Their Gym The First Week Of January

So it’s January 3rd which means that your local gym is probably slightly more crowded than usual. I mean chances are that your gym is equally as crowded today as it was a month ago but there’s some sort of placebo effect when it comes to the first couple weeks of the new year that make you feel like there are hundreds of more people crammed in there. Either way, the first few weeks of January is always an aggressively tense time of the year when it comes to recreational fitness. And that’s because there are 2 different types of people in the world–those who complain about new people going to the gym to start the new year, and then people who complain about people who complain about new people going to the gym to start the new year. The latter category of people is a relatively new one which have sparked up in today’s society.

Now here’s the thing. I’m personally of the belief that you shouldn’t complain about new people joining the gym for new years. Good for them and everything like that. If they want to better themselves and choose to start at the worst possible time of the year, then more power to them. So I’m not saying that people who complain about newcomers to the gym are totally in the right here. HOWEVER, it seems like more and more frequently these days I am seeing more people complaining about the complainers than I see people complaining about newcomers in the first place. For every one person who complains about the new people crowding the gym, there’s like 5 or 6 people coming out saying shit like “Omg I can’t believe it’s 2019 and we still have assholes out there who think it’s okay to make fun of people who just want to be their best selves”. Which is, ya know, annoying as shit. So much so that I now have to side with the people who complain about the new people at the gym. I mean it’s not like they’re not at least a little bit justified.

Let’s say you show up to the gym on any given day and you have chest day lined up. Chances are that there’s going to be a wait for a bench to open up regardless if it’s January 3rd or April 3rd or August 3rd. But typically that wait is going to be 10 minutes or so, and if it’s going to be any longer than that then maybe you’ll get somebody who is gracious enough to ask if you want to work in with them. But when the gym is packed to the goddamn gills with people who aren’t quite as familiar with the equipment, that wait can jump up to 15-20 minutes. All I’m saying is that you don’t want to see a meat head who is tweaking on preworkout and hasn’t been able to get on a machine yet. They need an outlet for all that shit coursing through their veins. You accidentally bump into one of those guys while they’re waiting 20 minutes for a bench to open up and you might find yourself in the obituaries the next day. All of a sudden we’ve got dead people on our hands now and it’s all because new people started showing up to the gym. Are you really going to complain about people complaining that people are now at risk of being murdered? Didn’t think so.

So yeah. You probably shouldn’t complain about new people showing up to your gym in the first place. But you also shouldn’t complain about people who do. And I realize in the end here that this is all one giant circle and I am now complaining about the people who are complaining about the people who are complaining. But I don’t care. I just needed to vent a little, okay? Okay.
